Black Sea

The Black Sea in the north, the Mediterranean in the south and the Aegean Sea in the west, Turkey  is surrounded by sea. Even an  internal sea of the country is worldwide known;  the Sea of Marmara, a very important waterway that connects the Black Sea with the rest of the world. The Black Sea is an inland sea covering an area of about 420 thousand square kilometers reaching at 2206 meters in its deepest point. Warm waters in the summer, very cold in the winter. The Black Sea is one of the youngest seas on the Earth, the name is probably derived from the color of its deep waters. Parallel to the coastline run the  mountains in the Black Sea region, the coasts are fairly smooth without too many indentations or projections. With a salinity of  17% of the sea, The Black Sea coastline in Turkey is 1,595 kilometers long. 

Marmara Sea

The coastline of the Marmara Sea is over 1,000 kilometers long, connected to the Black Sea through the Bosphorus and to the Mediterranean through the Dardanelles.
 
The Marmara Sea occupies an area of 11,350 square kilometres and is located within national boundaries. The Sea of Marmara is an inland sea, connecting the Mediterranean Sea and the Black Sea.   The approximate length is 280 km long from northeast to southwest and about 80 km wide at its greatest width. Its maximum depth reaches 1355 meters near the center.

Agean Sea

The Aegean Sea gave its name to this wonderful region and shows typical Mediterranean characteristics; dry summers and winters are rainy but not too cold. The temperature of the water during the summer months reaches 23-24 degrees Celsius, usually the northern part of the Sea is somewhat cooler than its southern part. The  Aegean coastline is a continuation of the Mediterranean and the mountains in the area are perpendicular to the Aegean Sea. The Aegean Sea coast is over 2,800 kilometers long. The coastline faces many islands. 

Mediterranean Sea

The Mediterranean coastline runs for 1,577 kilometers and here too the mountain ranges are parallel to the coastline. The salinity level of the Mediterranean is about double that of the Black Sea. The Mediterranean Sea is surrounded by Asia to the east, Europe to the north and Africa to the south. It's connected to the Atlantic Ocean to the west with Gibraltar Strait. It's also connected to the Red Sea in the southeast with the Suez Canal in Egypt, a man-made canal built in 1869. . The sea gave also its name to the Mediterranean region in Turkey. The name of the sea comes from Latin; Medi means middle, Terra means land or place. The region is also called the "pearl of the Meditteranean" or the Turkish Riviera, since cities such as Kemer, Antalya, Belek, Side and Alanya are situated in the region.
